Project Information
A modern finance partner held back by an outdated, copy-paste website.
Zmartly is a UK-based accounting and finance firm that works with startups and growing businesses. Their team combines traditional accounting with forward-thinking financial planning, but their previous website didn’t show any of that.
They were using a very common WordPress template that looked almost identical to dozens of other firms. The content was light, the navigation was cluttered, and there was no clear reason to choose Zmartly over the next accountant on Google.
Lumos was brought in to redesign the website from the ground up, align it with their brand and messaging, and turn it into a platform that could actually generate qualified leads – not just sit there like an online business card.
Project Overview
We re-imagined Zmartly’s site around the journey of a stressed business owner looking for trustworthy financial help.
Instead of starting with a pretty layout, we started with the questions real clients ask:
“Can I trust these people with my numbers?”
“Do they understand my type of business?”
“What happens after I book a call?”
We mapped that decision journey into the site architecture. The homepage now quickly explains who Zmartly is for, what problems they solve and how the process works. Service pages are structured around clear outcomes instead of vague lists of services.
On top of that, we rebuilt the site in WordPress as a custom, lightweight theme, cleaned up their technical SEO, and connected everything to analytics so the team can see which pages and campaigns are actually working.
The Challenge
Traffic was flat, conversions were low, and the old site didn’t sound or feel like Zmartly.
The site looked like a default accounting theme: stock photos, boilerplate copy, and no clear positioning. Visitors couldn’t tell what made Zmartly different, so they bounced or kept price-shopping.
Pages weren’t structured around real search terms (like “accountant for UK startups” or “CIS tax help”). Meta tags, headings and internal links were inconsistent, and load times were slow, which didn’t help rankings.
The calls-to-action were inconsistent and sometimes hidden. There was no clear path from landing on the site to booking a consultation. Even warm visitors from social media often didn’t know what to do next.
The Solution
We combined clean design, clear messaging and technical SEO into one streamlined WordPress build.
We approached Zmartly’s website like a product, not a quick reskin.
First, we clarified the positioning: Zmartly isn’t “an accountant for everyone” – they specialise in helping founders and finance teams who want proactive support, not just year-end paperwork. That shaped every line of copy and every layout choice.
Plain language that explains services, pricing approaches and processes without jargon.
Case studies, testimonials, service breakdowns and clear next steps to reduce hesitation.
A lightweight WordPress build with optimised assets so pages load fast on mobile and desktop.
“Before working with Lumos, our website was something we avoided showing people. It didn’t reflect the quality of our service and almost never brought in serious enquiries.
The new site finally feels like us. The messaging is clear, the design is sharp, and we’re seeing a steady increase in founders booking calls through the website. Lumos handled everything from strategy to execution and made the whole process straightforward.”
