Project Overview

About Solarballs

Turning organic demand into a smoother, more profitable store experience.
SolarBalls is a creator-led brand with a highly engaged audience across YouTube, social and community channels. Organic demand is driven by content, characters and a loyal fanbase that actively seeks out new drops.
The objective of this project was simple: make sure the Shopify store fully supports that demand, particularly during launches, and converts visitors more effectively – without increasing dependency on ads or a stack of third-party apps.
At the start of the project, traffic levels were healthy, but the store experience wasn’t consistently translating that intent into completed purchases. Our focus was to fix the funnel, not chase more impressions.

Our Approach

From “busy Shopify store” to a more efficient conversion engine

We focused less on surface-level design and more on structure, flow and native functionality.

Rather than applying cosmetic changes, we started with a detailed review of Shopify analytics and mapped the full customer journey – from first product discovery through to checkout.

That analysis highlighted the friction points: where intent was dropping, where offers weren’t clear, and where the experience didn’t quite match the energy of live launches.
From there, we rebuilt key areas of the store using custom, native functionality, keeping the site fast, flexible and easy for the SolarBalls team to manage internally during product drops and content releases.
Traffic : + 00 %
92,547 → 102,347 sessions
Revenue : + 000 %
£80,500 → £259,000
(≈ 3.2× increase)
Orders : + 000 %
1,377 → 3,048 orders
CR : + 000 %
1.23% → 2.58% increase in Conversion rate
“These improvements were achieved primarily by optimising the existing funnel rather than significantly increasing traffic or paid spend.”

The Challenge

Brilliant traffic, inconsistent conversion

The audience was already there – the store just needed to work harder.

Strong organic demand, but not enough completed baskets

SolarBalls’ content and community efforts were already driving substantial traffic and repeat visits to the store. However, analytics showed that this interest wasn’t always turning into completed orders. Fans were landing, browsing and sometimes dropping out before checkout, especially during busy launch periods.

Store experience struggling during launches

During product drops and campaign pushes, the Shopify theme didn’t always reflect what was happening across YouTube and the wider community. Promotional messages were harder to update than they needed to be, and urgency around limited stock or time-limited offers wasn’t consistently visible on key pages.

Growing dependency on external apps

Like many scaling stores, SolarBalls risked relying on a growing list of third-party apps for functionality such as countdowns, banners and cart incentives. This adds cost, increases technical overhead and can slow down the experience. We wanted to simplify that stack and bring critical functionality into the theme itself.

The Solution

Custom, native features built for launches and long-term use

We integrated the tools SolarBalls needed directly into the Shopify theme.
We focused on building features that improve conversion and make life easier for the team during launches. All key functionality was developed natively within the Shopify theme, reducing reliance on external apps, improving performance and removing ongoing subscription costs.

Real-time stock indicators and progress bars

We implemented live stock indicators to communicate genuine availability on key products, helping to support purchase urgency during popular drops. Progress-style displays can also be used to show how far a limited collection has sold through, reinforcing the sense of momentum without feeling aggressive.

Cart progress indicators for higher order values

To encourage larger baskets in a clear, non-intrusive way, we added cart progress indicators that show customers how close they are to a threshold – for example, free shipping or a specific promotion. This gives fans a simple nudge to add one more item, while keeping the experience transparent.

On-brand promo banners and countdown timers

We created fully on-brand promotional banner sections and countdown timers that can be updated instantly by the SolarBalls team. During launches, these components ensure the store mirrors live activity across YouTube and community channels, with messaging that can change in real time as campaigns evolve.

Integrated discount logic within the cart

We embedded discount logic directly into the cart and checkout flow, removing the need for extra pop-ups or third-party discount apps. Customers can see exactly what they’re receiving and why, which reduces confusion and keeps the experience clean, fast and consistent.

Campaign-ready setup for future drops

A key outcome of this build is the ability for the SolarBalls team to react quickly to new ideas. Promotional elements, launch messaging and countdowns can now be configured and adjusted internally, meaning the store can keep pace with content releases and community activity without waiting on external development.

These results were achieved primarily through optimisation of the existing funnel rather than significant increases in traffic or spend.

"A solid foundation for future launches and optimisation."

Thank you to the SolarBalls team for the collaboration throughout this project. It has been a pleasure working so closely together and seeing the impact of relatively small, focused changes at scale.
We’re proud of the results achieved so far and look forward to continuing to support future launches, experiments and further optimisation as the brand grows.
